Advocates fan out in global show of support for science

WASHINGTON (AP) — Scientists, students and research advocates rallied from the Brandenburg Gate to the Washington Monument on Earth Day, conveying a global message of scientific freedom without political interference and spending necessary to make future breakthroughs possible.
"We didn't choose to be in this battle, but it has come to the point where we have to fight because the stakes are too great," said climate scientist Michael Mann, who regularly clashes with politicians.
President Donald Trump, in an Earth Day statement hours after the marches kicked off, said that "rigorous science depends not on ideology, but on a

From the blog of Blair King https://achemistinlangley.wordpress.com/about/
Dr. King is a 'lukewarmer'; that is to say he pretty much believes that current climate change is mostly human-induced and may- MAY, not Will- get bad.
However because he does not subscribe to the idea of throwing away $Trillions to make virtually NO difference by the end of the century, he is labeled a 'climate denier.'
And this is why he understands that throwing away $Trillions is going to be a big mistake:
There is an incredibly common misperception about the fight against climate change that I find intensely frustrating. The misperception is that fighting climate change has to be seen as easy to be sold to the public and is inherently good for everyone involved. This misperception is so acute that it has its own meme. This meme really took off with

If experts had been right about sea ice, there would be no polar bears in Churchill
Posted on November 1, 2016 | Comments Off on If experts had been right about sea ice, there would be no polar bears in Churchill
The simple fact is that if polar bear experts had been right about the threat to polar bears from the loss of summer sea ice in the Arctic, there would be no polar bears in Churchill this fall. No bears for tourists to photograph, none for biologists to study, and certainly none for the BBC to film for an upcoming three-part TV special called “Arctic Live.”
The low-ice future that biologists said

“Between 1880 and 1940 a net [global] warming of about 0.6°C occurred, and from 1940 to the present our globe experienced a net cooling of 0.3°C. … [I]t has since been found that the rate of temperature increase decreases with increasing CO2 and increases with increasing particulates. Therefore, global particulate loading is of foremo
African SJWs: 'Science must FALL'
From the blog of Lubos Motl, Swedish Physicist:
Recall that South Africa has been the main pillar of the Western civilization on the African continent. "Decolonialization" began to erode this status decades ago. Nelson Mandela has been lionized but everyone with some forecasting skills must have known that the process he kickstarted was likely to be existentially harmful for the country. I just didn't know that the deterioration would be so fast.
South Africa has some 55 million citizens. Only about 8% are white and 2% are Asian while 80% are racially clean blacks and 10% are mixed. The whites have been a minority over there for centuries but it was the minority that dictated the basic organization of the society which is why the country was a part of the West – an advantage that has worked very well for members of all races who have lived in the country. And yes, indeed, lots of blacks have adopted the Western culture. It is still true to some extent that the Western organizatio
'Renewable' energy is clear-cutting forests
In 2009 the European Union, in an admirable and necessary effort to increase renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions, passed a new energy policy. This policy considered any and all biomass material as “renewable energy.” It raised a critical question: Where would Europe get all this wood to feed a growing demand? Energy companies quickly turned to one of the world’s largest wood-producing regions: the southern United States.
In just a few years, the southern U.S. has become the world’s largest exporter of wood pellets, the prefered form of biomass for industrial use. Last year alone, over 5 million tons of wood pellets were exported from the South directly to markets in Europe. This arrangement has had serious impacts o

Inconvenient Study: CO2 fertilization greening the earth
International team reports CO2 fertilization prompted plants and trees to sprout extra green leaves equivalent in area to two times the continental USA, or nearly 4.4 billion General Shermans (largest giant Sequoia tree)
